“I have written a bestseller.”
This writing affirmation is true.
Kind of. Let me explain.
One of the reasons I like affirmations is they remind me to focus on what I can control, ie, my thoughts and energy-focus. When, after making myself a cup of tea or coffee, I walk in on my ‘sleeping’ computer displaying random ‘Write Thought Tee’ writing affirmations I’m often jolted out of a mild-funk or negative mindset into the “Yeah, it is worth slogging through a draft to get to a polished publishable particle!” spirit.
And what bigger goal, in the commercial and popularity stakes at least, can any writer have if not becoming a ‘BESTSELLER’?
Well, there’s probably plenty of other, possibly more valuable goals actually. Things like wanting to express something unique, writing to articulate a difficult to understand experience, or writing because it is the most fun you have with your pants on (or pyjamas, as the case may be).
But despite all those worthy personal goals there is one which has become more important to me the more frequently my wife suggests a trip to the shopping centre to buy clothes for our two daughters, and that goal is: becoming a financially successful author.
And the good news (for my girls with fast growing feet) is, I’m getting closer to that goal every day. In fact “I have written a bestseller” is a completely true statement for me.
Here’s how…
Though my first novel, The Last Great Day is yet to top the New York bestseller lists (or any in London, Sydney, Paris or Berlin either) it did top the list of best seller’s for one day, at one book store in Melbourne.
That’s a start, isn’t it?
So maybe I just need to repeat today’s Write Thought Tee writing affirmation a few more times to help me focus on replicating that early success in more book stores in more cities around the world. It’ll probably help sales a bit now that The Last Great Day is available in USA via Createspace (as a print on demand) and so buyers keen to purchase a copy will no longer have to pay the high shipping costs from Australia.
But I digress. All those pesky publishing problems will sort them self out if I just stay focussed on what I want to achieve:
“I have written a bestseller.”
Simple.
True.
Cool!
